Jack

JACK THEELER is a South Dakota native who earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Dakota (1971) where he graduated magna cum laude and served as Editor-in-Chief of the South Dakota Law Review. He served as Chairman of the South Dakota Lottery Commission from 1986 to 1992. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, Jack is admitted to the US District Court for the District of South Dakota. He is an associate in the America Board of Trial Advocates and a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, the American Bar Association and the South Dakota State Bar. Jack’s practice focuses on the areas of insurance litigation, construction litigation and arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, personal injury and business litigation, estate planning, trust administration and probate.

Ron

RONALD J. WHEELER is a Huron, South Dakota native. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Dakota (1971) and wrote for the South Dakota Law Review. Ron is a past president of the USD Law School Foundation. He is a member of the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association and the South Dakota Bar Association. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, Ron is admitted to practice to the US District Court for the District of SD, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court. Ron’s practice focuses on the areas of personal injury and insurance defense litigation, corporate law, real estate and probate.

JOHN F. COGLEY was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees at Creighton University (1968) where he was an Associate Editor of the Creighton Law Review. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, John is a member of the US District Court for the District of SD and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. John’s practice focuses on the areas of insurance, corporate and banking law, real estate, civil litigation, worker’s compensation and school law.

DON E. PETERSEN is a South Dakota native who earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Dakota (1986). Don is a member of the American Bar Association and the South Dakota Bar Association. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, Don is admitted to the US District Court for the District of South Dakota. Don’s practice focuses on the areas of business acquisitions, planning and organization, real estate, and other business transactions, as well as estate planning and trust administration.

Trudy

TRUDY A. MORGAN grew up on a farm near Hoven, South Dakota. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and earned her law degree at The Ohio State University (1994). Trudy is a member of the American Bar Association and the South Dakota Bar Association. In addition to being admitted to practice in the state of South Dakota, Trudy is admitted to the US District Court for the District of South Dakota. Trudy’s practice focuses on the areas of adoptions, estate planning, probate and trust administration, and includes farm and business succession planning and employment law.

DOUGLAS M. DAILEY is originally from Mitchell, South Dakota. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and his law degree from the University of South Dakota (1996). He is a member of the American Bar Association, the South Dakota Bar Association, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the South Dakota Defense Lawyer Association. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, Doug is admitted to the US District Court for the District of South Dakota. TIMOTHY G. BOTTUM was raised on a farm near Tulare, South
Dakota. He received his undergraduate degree from South Dakota State University and his law degree from The University of Nebraska (2004). He is a member of the American Bar Association and the South Dakota Bar Association. Tim's practice focuses on the areas of business litigation, business law and entity formation, estate planning, criminal law and divorce/family law.

Patricia

PATRICIA BLACKFORD ERICKSON is originally from Brookings, South Dakota. She received an undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and her law degree from the University of Iowa (1984). She has been a member of the Board of Bar Commissioners for the State Bar of South Dakota and is a member of the American Bar Association and the South Dakota Bar Association. She is the chair of the State Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Section’s Trust Committee and is also a member of a special study committee appointed by the State Bar to develop and implement revision of the South Dakota Trust Code.  Patricia’s practice focuses on the areas of estate and trust planning, trust administration, probate and real estate.

JODY ODEGAARD SMITH was born in Mitchell, South Dakota. She earned her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Dakota (2003). While in law school, Jody was a member of the Trial Team. Jody is a member of the South Dakota State Bar and the American Bar Association. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, she is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota. Jody’s practice focuses on the areas of insurance litigation, personal injury and general civil litigation.
